I have always been intrigued by the idea that art knows no boundaries – art is universal. I am also fascinated by the notion that when a person creates a work of art it becomes the only one like it in the world. Art is not about right and wrong and is not governed by one correct answer. Even “mistakes” can have positive results and become an integral part of the finished product.
My personal work has evolved significantly since my years attending art school. I have always believed that the period between your worst work and your best work is significant because of the constant change in your ideas and techniques – and everything you learn in between. I like to focus on color, imagery, texture, shape and form. My present work is very ornate and combines elements of painting, sculpture and collage. And while I find inspiration in the world around me, I don't seek to "replicate" what I see. I want my artwork to make its own statement to the viewer – whether that response is purely visual or one that makes the viewer question the meaning behind the work. I have never been one to try to get too deep and intellectual with my work. I never want to take myself too seriously. My art is simply a passion and an essential part of my life. And if my art can bring pleasure to others...then that's icing on the cake.
"Remember, it's not the artist's job to copy anything, but to create a world of his own lines on paper!" ~ from Life is Elsewhere by Milan Kundrea
